OCZ comes with a new firmware update for the Octane SSD series, boasting increased performance and promising a significant enhancement for all users.

The Octane SSD firmware reaches now version 1.13 and can be updated using OCZ's proprietary toolbox 3.02.01 RC6. In order to update the Octane firmware, users must make sure that the drive is not set as the primary drive for the system they're running.

In case your drive is set as "Disk 0" or you're running Windows from it, you will not be able to carry on the update. OCZ also warns that X79 chipsets are not supported yet; no word on upcoming update has surfaced.

The Octane firmware 1.13 will erase all data on the drive, so it's strongly advised you should back up all important files. At the same time, make sure you don't cut off power to your system during the update.

Upgrading your Octane SSDs to firmware version 1.13 is said to dramatically improve the sequential data write performance for both 128 and 256 GB drives and enhance the 4KB random write performance.

You can now download the OCZ Toolbox Firmware Updater 3.02.01 RC6 / Octane SSD Firmware 1.13.
