AMD has just announced the availability of Catalyst 14.9.2 Beta driver that goes hand-in-hand with this week’s newly-released Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth title and allows Radeon GPUs to take advantage of the Mantle API supported by this game.

Before we begin, you should know that this version is a beta release, therefore it’s provided “AS IS” and under AMD’s EULA terms and conditions. However, if any problems are encountered, you can send a report using the AMD Issue Reporting Form so that they are fixed in future updates.

Now, since we cleared that up, you might be curious to find out the improvements this release has to offer, so let’s walk through the changes.

Besides the Civilization-related enhancements, version 14.9.2 beta increases Dual-Graphics performance for KritiKa and SheDiaoZero, updates Project Cars and Alien: Isolation CrossFire profiles, and resolves FIFA 2015 and Metro Redux CrossFire scaling that would perform under expectations.

In addition to that, Total War: Rome 2 issues, such as display texture corruptions in CrossFire configurations or underperforming when task switching, as well as Watch Dogs’ negative gameplay in CrossFire, have been resolved.

Moreover, the present release also fixes Max Payne 3's cinematic scenes flickering, the occasional flashing in Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, CCC white patches, and the dual AMD Radeon R9 295 possible black screen or system hang event in CrossFire configurations.

When it comes to supported OSes, AMD has provided 4 downloadable executables that are compatible with both 32- and 64-bit variants of Microsoft’s Windows 7 and 8.1 platforms (one for each combination).

As for the Known Issues list, workarounds, as well as other important notes, you can view them all on the AMD Catalyst 14.9.2 Beta Description Page.

That being said, download AMD Catalyst Graphics Driver 14.9.2 Beta for the appropriate OS and bit version, apply it on your computer, and enjoy your newly-improved graphics chipset.
