Recently, Dell has released new BIOSes for its M17X R4, M18X R2 and M14X R2 Alienware notebooks. These updates make the devices support the Fn+F1/F2/Pause function. The BIOS file will self-extract and install on Windows 8.1, but it is said to work with DOS as well.

To flash the update through DOS, copy the downloaded file to a bootable DOS USB key and restart the system with the flash drive still plugged in. Press the F12 key at startup and select "USB Storage Device" and Boot to DOS prompt.

Next, run the file by typing the location of the executable (i.e. G:\M14R2A14WIN64.exe). After the update is complete, the system will reboot automatically.

The feedback from users is both pro and con, as you would expect. There are those who have no problem with the device and, of course, those who complain about it. Among the complaints, overheating is the most common on all three models, followed by hard drive malfunctions and even the build quality.
