NETGEAR has outed a new firmware package developed for its new generation of smart switches, namely version 6.1.0.27 targeted at GS728TXS and GS752TXS ProSAFE devices.

Through this release, these two Gigabit units will get a new “Crash logs” option in the TFTP and HTTP upload, as well as a TechSupport workaround that was losing the “show running-config” command’s information.

In addition to that, firmware 6.1.0.27 resolves several of the switches’ reboot-related issues, fixes the system that crashed when stack manager was selected or DiffServ’s status changed, and removes the reboot problem due to an “Out of Memory” error from the known issues list.

Moreover, the L2 forwarding gets several fixes so that it doesn’t block anymore, and the SSL crash that was encountered under certain circumstances is now fixed.

NETGEAR’s release still has some problems, such as the one where the master changes after several reboots, which you can resolve by assigning a higher priority to the master, and the one where the Interface Shaping Rate doesn’t work when set to 16 (know that in this version the min value is 51).

In addition to that, the devices still have compatibility issues regarding the IE10 and IE11 browsers, which you can avoid by using a different one; however, the officially recommended browsers are IE7.0 to IE9.0, and Firefox 20 to 22.

That being said, download NETGEAR GS728TXS Switch Firmware 6.1.0.27 for download NETGEAR GS752TXS Switch Firmware 6.1.0.27 depending on which device you own, apply it to the switch, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
