MINIX has just released a new firmware targeted at its NEO G4 Android pocket computers, namely build 0530 version 005, which is compatible with both its G4-108A and G4-108C devices.

When it comes to changes, this fresh release includes a new boot screen, adds support for a new MINIX Metro launcher, and resolves the infrared remote wakeup problem.

In addition to that, the pocket PC can now make use of the screen saver feature, the default screen size is changed to 100%, low clock frequencies are removed, and the battery level is modified from 0% to 100%.

Moreover, if this update is applied, the latest version of MINIX edition XBMC is preloaded but only for 720p, and the behavior of the NEO A2 mouse buttons (FF, RW, and PLAY) is changed to the Android standard protocol. Also, you must press and hold the menu key to view the system bar, as it is now hidden by default.

As for applying this version, get and extract the downloadable archive, run the “RKBatchTool.exe” file from within the “Flash Tool” folder, and use the “Restore” mode in order to avoid any possible flash corruptions.

It would also be a good idea to back up all your important data, as the firmware upgrade process will erase files from the NEO G4.

That being said, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your MINIX NEO G4 model, apply the update on your device, and enjoy your newly-improved pocket PC.
