The official PlayStation blog reveals that a new system software for Sony's PS3 gaming console will be released in a matter of days, most likely this very week.

The new firmware release date is supposed to be part of a bigger event, namely the release of the PS Vita in Japan.

One of the major features in the 4.00 version of the PS3 system software is that it will transform your PS3 console into a content management device, letting you move or back up your PS Vita files such as games, music, photos or videos. Even more, you'll be able to update your PS Vita using PlayStation3's network connection.

Those of you who are PlayStation Plus members can  now activate or deactivate automatic update features relating to the game patches, system software, recommended games and videos, and trophy information sync.

Stay tuned on Softpedia, as we'll list the download link as soon as it's live.
