The long-awaited Catalyst 12.1 has finally surfaced and it brings a lot of nice enhancements for game experience and high-definition media, as well.

The AMD CrossFireX configurations now support the HD3D technology and the HDMI 1.4a connections can now relay a new Stereo 3D mode, while 1080p @ 30Hz is now enabled on several supported monitors.

The list of improvements is quite long and you can check everything in detail in the download page for the AMD Catalyst Display Driver 12.1. Most of the fixes relate to games crashing in several scenarios and hangs which occurred when various settings generated conflicts with CrossFire enabled.

Users of Windows Vista also receive an important fix which addresses the system crash issue occurring when ejecting Blu-Ray discs in PowerDVD and the poor 3D playback performance using the said player.

AMD advises to select the "Restore Factory Defaults" in the Catalyst Control Center prior to using the new Application Profiles to ensure the best compatibility between all the software components.
