Here's a nice piece of news for the graphics professionals, in the shape of the Nvidia Quadro/ Tesla 296.88 display drivers. While the absence of Windows XP 64-bit edition was rather expected, we were hoping to see the new release boasting Windows 8 support. Tough luck!

Version 296.88 WHQL will only work with XP and both 32/64-bit distributions of Vista and Windows 7. This new driver release brings support for OpenGL 4.2 for Quadro cards and higher series, with CUDA 4.1 support added as well.

OpenCL 1.1 is now supported with the Quadro FX x700 series and newer, as well as FX4600 and FX5600 cards. Nvidia Mosaic receives support for high-res 8-monitor topologies running at 2560 x 1600. New functional additions are also present: the ability to configure Mosaic topologies, VSync control, Edit setting, nView state and available GPU memory query.

The 3D settings page receives a Preferences tab allowing the control of the profile notification feature. Like with other R295 drivers, OpenGL and CUDA users can now enjoy 256 GB of Virtual Space.
