Today, EVGA has announced the availability of two new BIOS packages developed for its Z87 FTW and Stinger motherboards, namely version 1.06 and 1.05, respectively, which can be installed through two update methods.

These first updates of this year for the two devices improve the PCIe compatibility, fix the memory TWR value problem, resolve the “load previous values” option, and remove the bug that didn’t allow the system to boot when manual CPU core was enabled.

In addition to Stinger’s 1.05 update, the Z87 FTW’s BIOS also improves the USB 3.0 compatibility and enhances the VCore stability when over 1.4V.

As for applying these updates, first of all you must get and expand the downloadable archive. Now, if the Windows method is preferred, close all programs, run the “Windows_Update.bat” file, click “Yes” at the UAC dialog, and press “Y” to initiate the flash process.

Otherwise, if the USB/DOS installation method is desired, then create a bootable disk with the content of the newly extracted archive, run “DOS_Update.bat” from a DOS prompt, and press “Y” to start the upgrade.

While the new BIOS is being applied, make sure you don’t interrupt the process so that the boards don’t sustain any damage. When the update completes, the system will automatically shut down, at which point you must power it back on and load the default BIOS settings.

That being said, if you consider upgrading your board with its first update of this year, then download BIOS 1.06 for EVGA Z87 FTW or download BIOS 1.05 for EVGA Z87 Stinger, take into account all the above-mentioned aspects, and make sure you stay “updated one minute ago” this year as well.
