If you own a Kindle Fire and haven't received the new system software over the air, you can simply download it from us and upgrade the gadget by yourself.

Now, Kindle Fire receives firmware version 6.3, which brings better, enhanced sharing features, usable with other Kindle Fire owners and with Facebook and Twitter, as well. Book Extras is another nifty side of the 6.3 firmware: users can access book-related content (character descriptions, glossaries, author info and the like) without leaving the book.

Students can now buy Print Replica Textbooks with discounts up to 60% off the printed textbook prices, while the Movie Rentals system has received a nice fix: the rental period now starts the moment a customer actually begins watching the movie, rather than the time of the download start.

If your Kindle Fire runs with firmware 6.2.2 or older, all you have to do is copy the downloaded file to your "kindleupdates" folder on your device. After making sure the transfer went OK, disconnect the USB link between your Kindle and the computer, and check the battery: it's best to have a fully-charged Kindle Fire before proceeding any further.

Go to "Quick Settings," tap "More" and the "Device." Select "Update Your Kindle." If the option is greyed out, this means you already have the latest firmware installed. It is normal that your Kindle Fire restarts twice during the update. When the process is done "Current Version: 6.3" message will be displayed and you're good to go.
