Crucial has outed a new firmware package targeted at its M500 solid state drive, namely version MU05, which includes several fixes and improvements that will increase the unit’s overall performance and stability.

Specifically speaking, this newly released update enhances the drive latency performance with SMART polling applications, fixes the SMART reporting attribute 196 and 183, and improves the 960GB drive’s thermal throttling response for a greater reliability.

In addition to that, firmware MU05 also resolves the MU03 upgrade problem encountered by some users, enhances the 3rd-party encryption management software compatibility, and adds several other fixes and stability improvements.

As for installing this version, the producer made available two download records: one firmware update utility that you can use only on Windows 7 platforms and one ISO file with which you must create a bootable USB or CD in order to upgrade your SSD.

Still, bear in mind that if you consider installing this release, you must back up all your important files before initiating this process. The firmware upgrade isn’t intended to be destructive, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

That being said, from the links below, follow either the first link to download the update utility or the second one in order to get the ISO file, make sure your data is backed up, upgrade your SSD, and “stay updated one minute ago.”
