Buffalo has just made available firmware version 1.69 compatible with several LinkStation network storages, which fixes two Bash programming vulnerabilities that allow unauthorized users to execute arbitrary commands, namely CVE-2014-6271 and CVE-2014-7169.

When it comes to supported devices, this release can be used to improve the overall security level on Buffalo LinkStation Pro (LS-XHL, LS-SL, and LS-VL), Pro Duo (LS-WVL), Pro Quad (LS-QVL), and Live (LS-CHL and LS-XL) network storages.

In addition to that, Linkstation  Duo (LS-WXL), Mini (LS-WSXL) and SOHO (LS-WXBL) device models, as well as LS-AVL and LS-YL NAS units, are also compatible with the present release.

As for installing the update, you should know that Buffalo has provided two downloadable archives: one targeted at Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later system configurations, and the other developed for computers powered by one of Microsoft’s Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 platforms.

Therefore, save and extract the appropriate zip file, establish a connection between the LinkStation and the computer, make sure these two devices are on the same subnet mask, and close all programs and processes that might interfere with the upgrade (including firewall applications).

Now run the available setup, wait for the connected device to be detected, select the NAS you want to update, and click “Update” (admin password will be required). At this point, you just have to allow the LinkStation to do its job as a proper message will be displayed upon completion.

With this in mind, download Buffalo LinkStation NAS Firmware 1.69 for the proper OS and device model, upgrade your storage to the latest firmware version, and constantly check our website to be aware when newer versions are available.
