Buffalo has just made available a new firmware package targeted at its TeraStation 4000 and 5000 NAS series, namely version 2.60, which includes a huge number of changes that improve the compatible devices’ overall performance and stability.

This fresh update is developed for Buffalo’s TS5200D, TS5400D, TS5600D, TS5800D, TS5400R, TS4200D, TS4400D, TS4800D, and TS4400R network storages, and consists of two downloadable packages compatible with Mac and Windows platforms.

Specifically speaking, firmware 2.60 can be applied on systems running Mac OS X 10.4 or later, or under one of the Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8 OSes (either bit variant), as well as Microsoft’s Server 2000, 2003, and 2008 platforms.

When it comes to changes, the Mac and Windows-related firmware packages bring completely different fixes and new features that you can view on the description page of each downloadable file.

However, if you intend to apply this release, make sure not to turn off the TeraStation until the firmware has been applied (a “Finished” message will be displayed), and disconnect all iSCSI volumes before initiating the upgrade process.

In addition to that, you should also know that, after the update has been installed, USB drives might not be automatically mounted; to resolve this issue simply unplug and then reconnect the drive.

That being said, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your NAS series, click on the download that suits your device model and system OS, get the firmware, and apply it on your Buffalo network storage.
