Buffalo has unveiled a new firmware update compatible with its LinkStation 400 network storage series, namely version 1.33 suitable for LS410D, LS420D, and LS421DE devices, which includes various fixes that improve Samba’s overall stability.

If you want to benefit from this update, you should know that firmware 1.33 can be applied using computers that are powered by Mac OS X 10.3.0 or later platforms, or by one of Microsoft’s Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and Server 2008 operating systems.

In order to successfully perform this installation, firstly check the current firmware that is running on your NAS and make sure it reads 1.32 or earlier, and only afterwards save and extract the appropriate file for your OS.

Now, ensure both the NAS and the computer are on the same network subnet, close all processes and applications that might interfere with the upgrade, and open the available setup from within the newly created folder.

Once the LinkStation unit is detected, an update window will be displayed on-screen. Simply agree with the installation (username and password are required), and wait for the process to finish.

Even though this might seem easy, bear in mind that during the installation you mustn’t turn off or reboot the computer/NAS and no USB device must be connected to the LinkStation.

That being said, download Buffalo LS400 Series Firmware 1.33, take into account all aforementioned steps, and upgrade your network storage’s software to the latest version.
