There we go, with the last BIOS listing for January 2012. Nothing out of the ordinary for today's BIOS pick, save for the new F8 BIOS for one of Gigabyte's X79 boards, the GA-X79-UD7 revision 1.0.

After the rather bad past experience with overclocked X79 Gigabyte boards, it looks like the new BIOSes are more stable and offer the protection users expected from the beginning. The overclocking process which ended up in smoke involved messing with some voltage values which simply fried some capacitors on the board.

The new BIOSes for X79 boards take care of the issue by limiting the voltage increase and preventing users from going beyond the point of no return with their overclocking habits.

Here is today's BIOS:

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 (rev. 1.0) Bios F13 Gigabyte GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3 (rev. 1.3) Bios F13D Beta Gigabyte GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3 (rev. 1.0) Bios F13D Beta Gigabyte GA-X79-UD7 (rev. 1.0) Bios F8 HP G70-467CL Notebook BIOS F.65 Acer Veriton Z431G BIOS P01.B1 Acer Veriton Z431G BIOS P01.B0L for Linux HP G70-468NR Notebook BIOS F.65 HP G70-467CL Notebook BIOS F.65 Acer Veriton Z431G BIOS P01.B1 Acer Veriton Z431G BIOS P01.B0L for Linux HP G70-468NR Notebook BIOS F.65

As both hardware and software evolve, old BIOSes might become unstable or simply prevent you from using your computer to its full potential. Therefore it is highly recommended to always use the most recent BIOS version available.
