Just now, Atomos has made available a new firmware package developed for its Ninja 2 recorder, namely version 4.22, which includes a few changes that should improve the device’s overall performance, stability, and usability.

Specifically speaking, this fresh update adds a D-Tap mode that eliminates clicking on some cameras by stopping battery-switching and changes the Pulldown’s behavior, which now re-locks when camera cadence changes the frame order.

In addition to that, version 4.22 implements the Auto-detect feature for all HDMI camera Start/Stop triggers (timecode should be set to HDMI) and changes the QuickTime vendor field from “ATMS” to “APPL” for an improved compatibility.

As for applying this release, get and extract the downloadable archive, copy the “ATOMNJA2.FW” file onto a formatted memory drive; now, make sure the recorder is powered off, insert the memory card, and turn on the Ninja 2 unit.

At this point, the device will recognize the new firmware and automatically initiate the update process. Bear in mind that, while the new version is installing, the screen will display flashing lines of color – this is a normal behavior, so don’t power off the recorder.

When the upgrade has finished and the Ninja 2 turns off, simply remove the memory drive, power the device back on, and go to Menu → Ninja 2 Info → AtomOS Version to ensure that the installation has been successful.

That being said, download Atomos NINJA 2 Recorder Firmware 4.22, take into account all aforementioned aspects, apply the latest version, and enjoy your newly-updated recorder.
