Atomos has outed a new firmware package targeted at its newly released Ninja Blade field recorder, namely AtomOS version 5.1, which should improve the device’s overall performance and usability.

Specifically speaking, the new release adds the ability to adjust screen colors (Gamma, Y Lift, and Y Gain) and, as the producer highlights, this feature should please Canon C-Log users through the instant switch between Rec. 709 and C-Log thanks to the on-screen color display.

In addition to that, AtomOS 5.1 also adds support for Spyder color calibration, which makes the new Ninja Blade the first portable recorder to have this ability.

Moreover, the newly released update adds more battery display options and stops frequent checking between batteries when D-Tap mode is on in order to prevent mic clicks due to earth loops (encountered with specific cameras).

As for installing this release, get and expand the downloadable package, copy the “ATOMNJB.FW” file onto the root folder of a compatible memory drive, insert it into the recorder (make sure it’s powered off), and then turn it on.

The device will automatically recognize the update and start the installation process. Bear in mind that, while the Ninja Blade is searching and applying the new firmware, it will display flashing color lines – this is normal, so make sure you don’t power off the device.

When the AtomOS 5.1 installation has completed and the recorder has powered off, simply remove the memory drive and turn the device back on.

You can also check the currently installed firmware to ensure that the upgrade has been successful by going to Menu → Ninja Blade Info → AtomOS Version.

That being said, download AtomOS Ninja Blade Recorder Firmware 5.1, take into account all the above-mentioned aspects, apply the new release, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
