Asus is revamping a bit the line of Eee PC netbooks; while using the new "flare" design, the new netbooks also receive new CPUs.

We're talking about the N2600 chip dubbed Cedar Trail, replacing the Atom N455 and N570 processors. The 32nm processor runs at 1.6 GHz and sports a newer, unified architecture that makes it more suitable for high-definition media playback. The new GPU is based on the PowerVR specs and includes decoding capabilities for MPEG3, VC1, AVC, H.264 and even Blu-ray 2.0.

As for the rest, the Asus 1011CX is nothing to write home about: a modest 2 GB DDR3 capacity, no USB 3.0 ports and no HDMI connector. The LED 10.1" WSVGA screen makes a nice complement for the widescreen format movies, but that's about it.

If we were to name two features we liked, we'd mention the 11 hours operating time granted by the 6-cell battery and the optional 500 GB HDD. Hopefully, the new line of Cedar Trail netbooks will bring neater features. Until then, you can download the drivers for the Asus Eee PC 1011CX.
