Today, Atomos has made available a new firmware package developed for some of its field recorders, namely version 4.21 suited for the Ninja 2, Samurai, and Ronin devices.

The newly released update improves audio compatibility with SDI audio control packages on some older monitors, enhances the SSD performance, and also adds support for multiple SSDs.

As for applying this fresh version, get and expand the proper downloadable archive, copy the extracted file onto a formatted drive (preferably using the included docking station), power off the recorder, and insert the drive into the device.

Now if you power the unit on, the update process will start automatically, and when it finishes, the recorder will shut down. Bear in mind that, while the upgrade is in progress, the screen will flash line of color – this is normal, so make sure you don’t power off the device.

If the flash process is complete and the recorder shuts down, power it back on, and go to Menu → Ninja 2 / Ronin / Samurai Info → AtomOS Version in order to ensure the newly installed version matches the latest one.

That being said, if you consider updating your recorder to the latest firmware version, then from the links below, follow the one that best describes your Atomos unit, apply it to the device, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
