Today, ASUS unveiled a new firmware update compatible with a huge number of its RT router series, namely version 3.0.0.4.374.4561, which includes several security fixes and improvements that should lower the compatible device’s overall vulnerability.

Specifically speaking, the new update fixes light HTTPD, cross-site scripting, network place (samba), and FTP vulnerabilities, resolves the authentication bypass issue, and adds some notifications in order to prevent security risks.

In addition to that, the port 445 inbound connection from WAN networks is now denied, Merlin's build is now patched into the IPv6 user interface, and the FTP will now have to be set to account mode (from anonymous).

Through this new version, the routers will also have the multi-language strings updated, the FW and Time Zone checking algorithms tweaked, the UI performance improved, and its parental control time settings redesigned.

Moreover, new firmware notifications will now be available, IE, Firefox, and GoFlex USB disk compatibilities issues are now history, several Sonos devices connection bug will not bother you anymore, and UI bugs regarding the USB disk features are now resolved.

As for the supported devices, the complete router compatibility list can be viewed by following the link below, and for each individual router, you will also be able to view its full release notes.

That being said, if you consider installing this latest release, then download ASUS RT Router Firmware 3.0.0.4.374.4561 for the proper device, apply it, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
