Atomos Shogun Studio 2 Recorder Firmware 10.44

New features:

- Addition of new Social media focused frame guide with action and graphic safe areas.

- Addition of 9 Grid overlay: Providing the ability to utilise the rule of thirds theory for image composition.
- Legalize input signal levels: Ability to specify input Luminance range, for increased compatibility with devices outputting legal range YUV signals in Rec.709 and The Input menu option allows for the input to be set to ‘Legalize ON/OFF'
- Addition of Anamorphic de-squeeze modes:
1. With the increase in the use of Anamorphic lenses in productions we’ve added:
2. 1.8 x providing the ability to de-squeeze on full frame sensors. For example, the Panasonic S1H when used with Cooke Anamorphic/I lenses, in both standard and Special Flair versions.
3. 1.25x providing the ability to de-squeeze lenses such as Ultra Panavision 70 and Panavision Ultra Panatar lenses.
- False-color: IRE % labeling added to false colour scale
- Rolling File naming: Ability to maintain a continuous rolling file naming structure following formatting of a drive and An option provided to turn this function on and off
- 17:9 DCI Letter box support: Support for SDI inputs with a 4096x2160 or 2048 x 1080, HDMI 4096x2160 with resolution are displayed in a 17:9 aspect ratio.
- Tool bar order: Based on user feedback the order of the tools in the bottom bar has been updated to enable faster access to the tools such as magnification and false colour. Vector Zoom tool has been removed but the full vector scope can be viewed in large format. 

Important Notes:

- With the installation of this new update ALL users will be required to activate ProRes RAW, as a codec (as they would have done for DNx activation).
- Following the Firmware update, if in ProRes RAW mode the Shogun Studio 2 will default back to ProRes HQ. When a RAW source is plugged in, or a user selects ProRes Raw Codec, a UI popup will ask for activation code to continue.
- Even if the user has already been shooting with ProRes RAW, they must activate it in this update by visiting Atomos website atomos.com/activation and follow the online instructions to generate a code.

Firmware Update Tutorial:

- Download and unzip the file.
- Copy the file onto a recommended, formatted driver, using the docking station included with your recorder.
- Insert the drive into the Atomos recorder while it’s off.
- Power up the Atomos recorder.
- The screen will show flashing lines of color. This is normal - DO NOT power off!
- Updating will take a few minutes.
- Once completed, the Atomos recorder will power down.
- Power up the Atomos recorder again.
- Check Menu > Product Info > AtomOS Version. This should match the version you have just downloaded.
- Enjoy your updated Atomos recorder !

Firmware Recovery Tutorial:

- Power down the Atomos recorder (Hold power button for 4 seconds).
- Hold down the power button for 10 seconds approximately.
- You will see the “Firmware Update Failed” screen.
- Insert your HDD / SSD.
- The install process will begin and the screen will show flashing lines of color. This is normal - DO NOT power off !
- Once completed, the Atomos recorder will power down.
- Enjoy your updated Atomos recorder !

About Video Recorder Adapter Updates:

Applying a new firmware package on your Video Recorder adapter should improve overall performance and stability, fix various issues encountered with the device, or add support for newly developed features.

The Video Recorder adapter should be carefully upgraded by a power user (that is to say, someone who has the know-how to successfully complete the process), but it can also be performed by an average user at his or her own risk.

Either way, given the fact that each producer has their own method for installing a new firmware, and that every device has a particular way to enter the update mode, you must not consider upgrading the adapter's software until you have read and thoroughly understood the installation steps.

As a rule, said steps shouldn't pose too much of a challenge because manufacturers strive to make them as easy as possible. As with everything else, exceptions do occur, and users should be prepared for them.

Usually, you should transfer the compatible firmware to the Recorder through a USB cable or a memory card, and afterwards enter update mode from the unit's setup menu or through a specific power-on method.

With this in mind, if you intend to apply this release, make sure the package is compatible with your Video Recorder and that it brings about the changes you want or require; hit the download button and apply the new firmware.
