Performing the Linksys router upgrade:
Step 1: Access the router’s web-based setup page.
IMPORTANT:
Make sure to enter the correct router Internet Protocol (IP) Address in accessing the router’s web-based setup page. The default router IP Address is 192.168.1.1. If this address does not work, it might have been changed when the router was set up so you need to check the new IP Address. If you still can't access the web-based setup page, try resetting the device. This will restore your router to factory defaults.
NOTE:
If you encounter a "502 Error" or Bad Gateway Error​, you can perform a manual firmware upgrade by bypassing Smart Setup to solve the issue.
Step 2: Click on Administration > Firmware Upgrade.
Step 3: Click the Browse… button.
Step 4: Locate and select the file that you have downloaded then click Open.
NOTE:
If you are using Mac OS X, click the Choose button.
Step 5: Click the Start Upgrade button.
A warning prompt stating not to interrupt the upgrade will appear.
However, if you selected the incorrect file a prompt similar to the image below will appear. If this happens, click the OK button and repeat Steps 2 to 4 and select the correct file.
Step 6: Click Continue when it prompts that the upgrade has been successful.
Step 7: Powercycle the router by unplugging it from the power outlet for 10 seconds, then re-plug it.
IMPORTANT:
- The safest way to perform the firmware upgrade is to use a wired computer.
- DO NOT power cycle the Router during the firmware upgrade process.
About Router Firmware:
Before you consider downloading this firmware, go to the system information page of the router and make sure that the currently installed version isn't either newer or matching this release.
Due to the large variety of router models and different methods for upgrading the device, it is highly recommended that you read and, above all, understand the installation steps before you apply the new firmware, even if you are a power user.
