Media Server Version 3.1.49 and Client Version 1.2.11

These two upgrades are packaged together to simplify the installation. The enhancements and fixes are those added since the previous releases, Media Server version 3.1.49 and client version 1.2.11.

New Features Overview, Server Version 3.3.23/Client Version 1.3.5

1. MAC address of wireless access point is shown in Link Info screen
2. When specifying a static IP address, the Network Mask will default according to the class of the selected IP address
3. Media Server automatically detects the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Firewall and configures it to allow communication between the Media Server and MP101
4. Media Server listens on all available network interfaces
5. Media Server can scan mapped network drives for audio files. Please be sure to read the help information in the help file C:Program FilesNETGEARMedia ServerMPSUTIL.HLP in order to properly set up the shares on the file server computer so the Media Server can access them.
6. MusicMatch Media Library importer for Media Server

Modifications and Bug Fixes, Server Version 3.3.23/Client Version 1.3.5

1. Wireless stability improvements on the client side
2. Playback improvements during minor instances of IP fragmentation, and during periods of increased network load.
3. Shuffle behavior is more random
4. Media Server stability and scalability improvements
5. Radio1234.com button in Media Server should load the page properly, and not cause the browser to erroneously report that cookies are disabled
6. Media Server provides better information when rejecting unsupported files

Known Issues, Server Version 3.3.23/Client Version 1.3.5

1. There are still occasional streaming problems using wireless, despite the stability improvements
2. Streaming will eventually fail during periods of high IP fragmentation (not common on normal home networks)
3. Media Server has trouble with large amounts of tracks (>12,000)
4. The MP101 will have problems detecting, connecting to, and streaming from the Media Server if the Media Server PC is also running an active Cisco VPN Client. Disabling the VPN link will work around the problem, though you may need to use the "Set MTU" utility provided with the Cisco VPN Client to reset the Local Area Connection's MTU to the default value of 1500 to avoid streaming dropouts.

To Upgrade

The server and client updates are two zip files. There is a four-part upgrade procedure:

Part 1. Install the Server Software

1. Using the PC where the NETGEAR Media Server software is running, download the new file MP101_S3_3_23.zip from NETGEAR
2. Use an unzip utility to extract the files to a convenient location (such as the Windows Desktop). Do NOT run the .exe file from inside the unzip utility
3. Double click the MediaServerInstall.exe file to start the Media Server installer
4. Follow the instructions on the screen to upgrade the server. Reboot the PC if directed. It is recommended that you do NOT save the media database for this particular upgrade

Part 2. Download and Unzip the Firmware Files to the Proper Location

1. Using the PC where the NETGEAR Media Server software is running, download the new file MP101_C1_3_5.zip from NETGEAR
2. Use an unzip utility to extract the two files from the .zip file
3. Copy the files to C:Program FilesNETGEARMedia ServerUpgrade. If you elected to install the Media Server to a different location than the default, you will need to use that location instead

Part 3. Upgrade the Client Using the Remote Control

1. Be sure the NETGEAR Media Server software is running
2. Using the remote control, be sure that no music is playing
3. Connect the MP101 to the server where the updated Media Server was installed
4. From the Setup menu, select Maintenance, then select Upgrade
5. The display will show messages as information is downloaded to the player. When the upgrade is complete the MP101 will reboot
6. The current firmware will be indicated when the MP101 boots. It is also available from the Setup menu. Select Maintenance, then select About. The firmware version should indicate VA1.3.5RNG.2

Part 4. Reset to Factory Defaults

1. Using the remote control, from the Setup Menu, select Maintenance, then select Reset Factory Defaults
2. The MP101 reboots. All settings are cleared.

Caution! The first download is very large. Click Save (not "Open"), and be prepared to wait. If you have a slower connection, the larger file may take a half hour.
