DOWNLOAD NOW

This package contains utilities that can be used to restore or update the system BIOS on the supported desktop models with a 786E1 BIOS.

The Active Management Technology (AMT) V2.2 Management Engine (ME) firmware image is only intended for Intel vPro configurations. This package, including the V3.05 system BIOS, is not intended for non-AMT systems.

IMPORTANT:

The system should NOT be updated with this new ME firmware if it is a non-vPro configuration, or if it is using ASF as the management selection in a vPro configuration. Once the ME firmware is updated to this new image, it CANNOT be re-flashed to an older ME firmware version (that is, it CANNOT be restored to a V2.0, or earlier AMT version), and functionality may be adversely impacted in some ASF configurations.

Several methods for changing the BIOS version may be chosen. Included in this package are the following methods:

- Use the DOS utility with a pre-boot execution environment (PXE) management application to locally update or restore the system BIOS.
- Use HPQFlash to upgrade the BIOS directly in a Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Windows Vista environment.
- Create a CD image to upgrade/restore system BIOS.
ENHANCEMENTS:
- Adds support for full-speed hubs with endpoint numbers greater than 1.

FIXES:

- Fixes an issue where the system stops responding (hangs) while Microsoft Windows is loading when keys are pressed and multiple keyboards are present. The BIOS now checks USB UHCI controllers for ownership changes or halt state before attempting runtime device enumeration.

PREREQUISITES:

None

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved).

2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

NOTE

: Only the System BIOS component of this SoftPaq is SSM Compliant. The Intel Management Engine (ME) firmware is not SSM compliant, and therefore, requires a different method for remote deployment.

About OS Independent BIOS:

Although installing a newer BIOS version might add new features, update various components, or improve the device's usability, this process is very risky, so the upgrade is recommended to be performed only when it is really needed.

In addition to that, this task should be performed by someone who has the knowledge to successfully complete the installation; regular users may fulfill it at their own risk.

When it comes to applying a new version without taking into account the computer's operating system, the most commonly used method to flash the BIOS is by creating a bootable USB or CD containing the update file, and running it from DOS.

Still, regardless of the method used or whether the upgrade is performed by a regular or power user, it's recommended that the new BIOS be applied in a steady power environment such as the one ensured by a UPS unit.

The Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is a very important software that loads the currently installed OS, and tests all of the system's hardware components – so make sure you flash it correctly.

Bear in mind that failing to perform a successful installation could seriously damage your device, and the faulty BIOS resulted from the process might even render it unusable.

So, if this release includes useful changes, hit the download button, get the package, and update your BIOS version. Otherwise, check with our website as often as possible, so that you don't miss the release that you need.
