Today, Canon has just outed a new firmware version developed for some of its camcorders, namely build 1.0.4.0 compatible with the XA20, XA25, and VIXIA HF G30 devices, which can be applied regardless of the operating system installed on your computer.

This fresh update resolves a pre-recording control issue encountered when using MP4 format and fixes a phenomenon spotted with the previous firmware where the camera menu would hang after selecting “Access Point Connection” from the Wi-Fi menu (only when Russian language was set).

In addition to that, the flicker compensation problem that would not be properly applied when shooting is now resolved, and the issue in which the audio would be out of sync when using 23.98 frame rate and 24 Mbps LPCM Recording Mode is also fixed.

As for installing this version, get and extract the proper downloadable record for your camcorder, initialize an SD card using the device you are about to upgrade, and copy the “VJE4.FIM” file onto the root folder of the memory card.

Now turn on the camcorder, insert the SD card you have just prepared, set the power switch to camera, and go to the settings menu; tap on the firmware version of your unit, then “Ok” at the confirmation screen, and allow the device to perform the update.

When finished, the unit will automatically reboot and “Firmware Updated Version 1.0.4.0” will be displayed on the screen – this process takes about 9 minutes to complete, so make sure you don’t interrupt it until the above-mentioned message is shown.

That being said, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your Canon device, take into account all aforementioned aspects, apply the firmware, and enjoy your newly-updated camcorder.
