This hotfix is meant to improve the overall performance of the game. Since there were users that experienced stuttering with Preload, Missing/black surfaces and/or display corruption, ATI released this hotfix that also includes Catalyst 7.8. AGP ATI video card owners still reported problems due to the inclusion of the latest Catalyst drivers. The DX10 version continues to behave awkward o some systems.
It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.
Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
