Brother products emulate the PostScript language (Brother's emulation is known as BRScript), or use a licensed version of the original Adobe PostScript language.
For PostScript printing, Brother develop PPD (Postscript Printer Description) files which work in conjunction with the Postscript driver that is available for your operating system. These PPD files describe the capabilities of the Brother device. For example its resolution capabilities, paper input and output capabilities, etc.
It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.
