VIA IDE Miniport Driver 3.20b

The VIA IDE Miniport driver is now a legacy driver that was originally designed to increase IDE performance and enhance IDE support provided by Microsoft's default driver. Much of those enhancements have now been included with Windows Service Packs however and the VIA IDE Miniport driver is not required.
This driver will increase IDE performance on NT4 based Microsoft operating systems (Win9X, NT4 & ME) but users should note that once it is installed it cannot be uninstalled.

Microsoft Windows operating systems are provided with default Microsoft IDE drivers. VIA engineers develop IDE drivers specifically for VIA chipsets, with the aim to provide extra features, added performance and enhanced compatibility, especially developed for VIA Parallel ATA (PATA) and Serial ATA (SATA) controllers.

There are 4 main VIA IDE driver choices for VIA chipset based systems. Not all drivers are relevant for all hardware and operating systems. This guide seeks to provide users with a summary of the benefits of each VIA IDE driver and which operating systems and controllers they support, so that users can ascertain whether they are relevant to their system.

Current driver package for new VIA chipsets:

VIA V-RAID Driver
VIA PATA/SATA IDE Driver Package (previously the VIA MiniIDE Driver)
VIA IDE Accelerator Driver
Driver package for legacy VIA chipsets:

VIA Miniport Driver (also known as the VIA IDE Bus Master Driver)
At the current time, the VIA HyperionPro driver contains the VIA PATA/SATA IDE Driver Package and the V-RAID Driver. Even if you read over the information about VIA IDE driver choices in this guide and then decide to install a driver that is not included in the HyperionPro package, please note that VIA chipset systems do still require the chipset/platform driver.
