This tool will run under Windows XP and Windows Vista to tell you if you have an affected Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 SATA Hard Disk Drive. When the tool runs, it first looks for the presence of a Seagate Model ST3500820AS(500 GB) or ST31000340AS(1 TB) HDD.
If it finds either of these two drives, it will look to see if the current firmware level is LV12 or below. If both of these conditions are true, then it reports that you have an affected HDD. If your system does not have one of the affected Seagate models, or is already at the new level firmware, it will say you are not affected.

It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.
Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
