HP Z600 Workstation BIOS 01.08 Rev.A description

This package contains the System BIOS image (BIOS Family 786G4) and local and remote BIOS flash utilities for the HP Z600 Workstation. These utilities can be used to restore or update the System BIOS. System BIOS is operating system independent.

NOTE: To determine the BIOS family and BIOS date, press F10 on the target workstation during Power On to run the Computer Setup Utility, and then select File/System Information. This information can be saved into a text file on a diskette or on a USB flash media device by selecting File/Save to Diskette. In order for a USB flash media device to be recognized by the workstation, the device must be attached before the workstation is Powered On.

ENHANCEMENTS:
The following enhancements have been added to BIOS version 01.08 since version 01.07 (SP42808) was released:
- Includes Memory Reference Code version 1.03.4.
- Enhances fan control for better cooling and acoustics.
- Improves OEM Activation support for compatibility with future versions of Microsoft Windows.
- Makes minor register setting adjustments to conform to the most recent hardware specifications.
- Improves SMBIOS Type 19 and Type 17 structures to more accurately describe the memory configuration.
- Maximizes the amount of memory available when less than 4 GB is installed. This enables more memory to be used by a 32-bit operating system when more than 4 GB of memory is installed in the workstation.

FIXES:
The following fixes have been made in BIOS version 01.08 since version 01.07 (SP42808) was released:
- Resolves an issue that can cause the workstation to become unresponsive (hang) when an ATTO Technology UL5D SCSI or Celerity FC-41ES Fibre Channel Host Adapter is installed in any I/O slot other than Slot 3.
- Fixes an issue that can prevent the workstation from booting from the hard disk drive when a USB flash drive is hot-plugged during the Power-On Self-Test (POST).
- Corrects an issue that can cause the workstation to become unresponsive when multiple keyboards are present and keys are pressed while Microsoft Windows is loading.
- Eliminates an issue that prevents USB keyboards from working correctly when the USB Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) controller is disabled in the Computer Configuration Utility (F10 Setup), and a power button 4-second override shutdown is done while Microsoft Windows is running.
- Fixes an issue where error messages on the display may be overwritten with other information.
- Corrects an issue where the Fan Idle Mode settings in the Computer Configuration Utility (F10) did not control the fans correctly.

PREREQUISITES:
None

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
This SoftPaq includes the following methods for changing the BIOS version:
- Use HPQFlash to upgrade the BIOS directly in a Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Vista environment.
- Use the utilities in this package to flash the BIOS in a DOS environment from bootable media.
- Use the ROM images in this package with the Computer Setup Utility (F10) to flash the BIOS from a USB flash drive or CD-ROM drive.

This package can be used with System Software Manager (SSM), HP Client Management Solution (HPCMS), or pre-boot execution environment (PXE) management software for remote updating of the BIOS.

WARNING: DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR ATTEMPT TO REBOOT THE COMPUTER DURING THE UPGRADE PROCESS!

1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved).

2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to update the System BIOS.

NOTE: If remote flashing is required, see the remote utility documentation for instructions about creating a Remote ROM Flash job to flash the System ROM on target workstations on the network.

It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.

Do not forget to check with our site as often as possible in order to stay updated on the latest drivers, software and games.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed a wrong driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
