Just now, Western Digital has rolled out a new firmware package compatible with its My Book Live and Live Duo Personal Cloud Storages, namely version 02.43.10-048, which fixes the CVE-2014-3566 POODLE SSLv3 security vulnerability.

To be more specific, this release significantly lowers the possibility of a man-in-the-middle attack to be encountered, whose main target is to obtain cleartext data through padding-oracle attacks.

Therefore, if you want to benefit from this new improvement, then you should take into consideration a firmware upgrade.

To do so, launch WD QuickView, log into the Dashboard, and go to Settings → System → Updates → Update from File. From there, browse to the firmware file, select it, and press the prompted “Ok” button.

Now, since the update process is initiated, make sure you don’t remove the AC power adapter, operate any of its buttons, or interrupt the installation in any way, as this might cause various malfunctions or even render the device unstable.

Moreover, since a power disruption can seriously damage your storage, it would be a good idea to use a stable power source as well, such as the one ensured by a UPS unit.

The installation process takes a few minutes, and when it completes, the device will automatically reboot.

That being said, download WD My Book Live Duo Firmware 02.43.10-048 or download WD My Book Live Firmware 02.43.10-048, take into account all aforementioned steps, and enjoy the newly-improved security level of your storage unit.
