Sony’s development team has made available a new firmware package compatible with PlayStation 4 systems, namely version 4.72, which only improves the overall system performance.

If you intend to upgrade to this release to find out what the changes are (or simply want to have the latest firmware on your console), download the .PUP file, create a “PS4/UPDATE” path onto an FAT32-formatted USB stick, save the firmware there, and connect it to your console.

Now, go to Settings → System Software Update → Update via Storage Media, and wait for firmware 4.72 to be found. Once located, the console will automatically initiate the upgrade process and guide you through the steps; make sure to agree with the update.

However, bear in mind not to interrupt this process by making use of the PlayStation’s buttons, removing the power cable or the storage unit, powering it off, or in any other way. Doing so might not only lead to malfunctions but can also render the unit unusable.

Once the upgrade finishes, it would be a good idea to go to Settings → System Settings → System Information and check to see if the new firmware has been successfully applied: a 4.72 system version should be displayed.

Last but not least, Sony has also provided a Reinstallation Package (877 MB) that applied a fresh 4.72 system software, deletes all user data and other files, and has the same installation steps as mentioned above.

With this in mind, download Sony PlayStation 4 Firmware 4.72, carefully apply it on your gaming system, and continually check our website to stay “updated one minute ago.”
