Sony has announced the availability of a new firmware package targeted at its PMW-F5 and PMW-F55 digital 4K camera models, namely version 6.02, which removes the bug that prevented these devices from working after turning on the Power and pushing the Menu button.

In addition to that, the present version also fixes the improper appearance of the Color Bar when Camera Remote Controller was connected to an F5 or F55 unit for recording, playback, or displaying Thumbnails. However, this issue was encountered while Color Bar settings were turned from on to off.

Moreover, Sony also would like to highlight that you must turn off Private browse function when using Wi-Fi Remote on iOS devices and Safari, as well as that files created with this 6.02 release won’t be compatible with any of the earlier firmware versions.

When it comes to installation, first of all, take into account that this update is only compatible with Sony AXS-R5 Recorder Firmware 4.1, thus make sure that this requirement is met.

Moving forward, in order to upgrade your camera to firmware 6.02, get and extract the proper downloadable archive for your device model, copy the .bin file onto a formatted SD card, and insert it into the camera, and go to System Menu → Version → Version Up → Execute.

Afterwards, follow all recommendations, and select “Execute” again. Check the version information shown on-screen, select “Execute” once more, and allow your digital camera to do its job.

With this in mind, either download Sony PMW-F5 Firmware 6.02 or download Sony PMW-F55 Firmware 6.02, depending on which device you own, carefully apply it on the unit, and enjoy the changes this new release brings about.
