Realtek has made available a new version of its HD Audio package, namely 6.0.1.7831, which comes only one day after the previous Realtek HD Audio Driver 6.0.1.7829 release and might also include small stability, performance, and sound quality improvements.

In terms of compatibility, this update only includes support for the 64-bit variant of Microsoft’s Windows 10 platform. Also, know that the file is provided by Microsoft’s Update Catalog, so it’s coming in a .cab file format.

However, since other OSes might seem to be compatible, you should know that installing the present update on platforms other than the one mentioned above isn’t recommended. Doing so might lead to malfunctions that would require you to remove and apply the appropriate driver.

Thus, if you intend to apply driver 6.0.1.7831, first download the package on your desktop location, extract the cab file, go to Device Manager, right-click on the hardware you want to upgrade, and choose to update it.

Afterward, locate and select the location of the newly created directory, follow all on-screen instructions for a complete and successful upgrade, and don’t forget to perform a system reboot to allow all change to take effect.

That said, download Realtek HD Audio Driver 6.0.1.7831, install it, and check our website constantly to be aware when a newer version is available or if an additional file is provided for the present release.

Update 5/27: Good news for those of you who wanted build 7831 for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 as well (besides Windows 10): Realtek has made available an archive fulfilling these needs, and you can download it using the link above.
