NVIDIA has made available the download links for its stock recovery and developer-only 7.0.1 firmware packages compatible with the SHIELD Android TV, SHIELD Android TV Pro, and SHIELD TV 2017 devices, which installs the new Android 8.0 Oreo along with the latest security updates.

This new upgrade adds a new fully customizable Home Screen, lets owners organize their favorite apps into a “TV guide” style layout, includes support for additional smart home partners and services, and improves compatibility with SHIELD, Xbox 360, DualShock 4 v2, and DualShock 4 controllers.

In addition to that, version 7.0.1 implements support for Shadowgun Legends, Crashlands, Morphite, and Dandara games, adds a shortcut to Settings when on the home screen (hold the Back button), allows connecting to Wi-Fi without disconnecting Ethernet.

When it comes to installation, you should know that NVIDIA has provided both the OTA (Recovery OS) and Developer Only (rooted) images for each Android TV console; make sure to get the correct one for your device.

Moreover, it is highly recommended that you understand and familiarize yourself with the update steps before initiating the flash process. Failing to complete the upgrade can lead to various device malfunctions or even brick your console.
