NVIDIA has made available a new firmware package compatible with its SHIELD Android TV and Android TV Pro gaming consoles, namely version 2.1, which improves HDMI black levels and compatibility, and adds support for new games and applications.

Specifically speaking, this new update allows you to make use of Showtime (streams new episodes and past seasons of popular shows) and Disney Movies Anywhere (displays Disney, Disney Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars digital movies).

Moreover, you will also be able to play an award-winning adventure/puzzle game, such as Contrast, or improve your reflexes and wits in an intense arcade game like Pix the Cat.

When it comes to installation, you should know that NVIDIA has provided only the OTA (Recovery OS) images for each Android TV and TV Pro consoles. Developer Only (rooted) packages aren’t yet available.

In addition to that, it is highly recommended that you understand and familiarize yourself with the update steps prior to initiating the flash process. Failing to apply firmware 2.1 might lead to various device malfunctions or even brick your console.

With this in mind, it would be a very good idea to read the How to Flash NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Recovery Image instructions, in order to make sure no problems are encountered.

That being said, download NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Firmware 2.1, apply it, and check our website as often as possible to be aware when a newer version is available for your device.
