The new update should improve overall sound quality

Realtek has made available a new version of its HD Audio package, namely 6.0.1.7940, which comes a few days after the previous Realtek HD Audio Driver 6.0.1.7936 release and might also include small stability, performance, and sound quality improvements.

In terms of compatibility, this package is suitable for both 32- and 64-bit variants of Microsoft’s Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 operating systems, including the Redstone (RS) and Threshold (TH) anniversary editions of Windows 10.

However, since different OSes might also seem valid at first, installing Realtek’s update on other OSes isn’t recommended and should not be performed. Doing so might lead to malfunctions that would require you to remove and apply the appropriate driver.

Thus, if you intend to apply driver 6.0.1.7940, first download and unzip the package on your desktop location, close all programs and processes that might interfere with the upgrade, and run the available setup.exe file.

Afterward, just follow all on-screen instructions for a complete and successful upgrade, and don’t forget to give the wizard permission to perform a system reboot so that changes can take effect properly.

That said, download Realtek HD Audio Driver 6.0.1.7940, install it, and check our website constantly to be aware when a newer version is available or if an additional file is provided for the present release.
