AsusWrt-Merlin has rolled out a newer version of its custom firmware packages, namely build 380.59 Beta 2, which backports security fixes from OpenWRT to Samba 3.6.25 and addresses CVE-2016-2115 and CVE-2016-2118 vulnerabilities.

In addition to that, the present update includes MU-MIMO beta support for RT-AC87U, -AC88U, -AC3100, and -AC5300 routers, implements various IPTV fixes, and adds a new OpenVPN client/server option to reset settings to factory defaults.

Moreover, AsusWrt-Merlin adds codel and fq_codel support to ARM models (RT-AC56U and newer), removes a bug that caused problems for OpenVPN clients set to policy-based routing and Exclusive DNS mode, and includes all changes from the previous 380.59 Beta 1 AsusWrt-Merlin Firmware,

When it comes to compatible devices, this release is suitable for ASUS’ RT-N66U (B1, R, W), RT-AC88U, RT-AC87 (R, U), RT-AC68 (P, R,W ,U), RT-AC66 (W, U, R), RT-AC56 (R, U, S), RT-AC5300, RT-AC3200, and RT-AC3100 wireless routers.

In terms of installation, just save and unzip the appropriate archive for your model, establish a wired connection between the router and your computer, and go to Advanced Settings > Administration > Firmware Upgrade.

Now, click on the “Choose File” button near the “New Firmware File” section, select the newly extracted .trx file, hit “Upload,” and wait for your router to do its job. Bear in mind that interrupting this process can result in serious device malfunctions.
