The new update improves operability and fixes a few bugs

NETGEAR has made available a new firmware update targeted at its Nighthawk X8 AC5000 Router (R8300), namely version 1.0.2.100, which improves interoperability, thus supporting 8TB USB disks, and resolves a few security vulnerabilities.

If you consider these changes useful and want to improve your unit’s overall stability and performance (or simply want to have the latest firmware), then log into the administration page, go to the currently installed software version, and check if it isn’t either newer or matching this release.

If all is ok, save and unzip the downloadable archive, make sure the router is connected to the computer via an Ethernet cable, and go to Advanced > Administration > Firmware Upgrade. Installing via wireless isn’t recommended, as this technology tends to disconnect randomly.

Now click the “Browse” button, navigate and select the newly extracted .chk file, click upload, agree with the next dialogs, and wait patiently as the router does the job.

Even though this seems easy, bear in mind that during the installation, you mustn’t power off the computer/router, remove the Ethernet/Power cable, or interrupt this process in any way, as this might lead to serious device malfunctions.

That said, download NETGEAR R8300 Router Firmware 1.0.2.100, take into account all aspects mentioned above, apply the new version, and check our website as often as possible to stay up to speed with the latest releases.
