The new release fixes a Path Traversal Attack vulnerability

Just now, NETGEAR has rolled out a new firmware package developed for its SRX5308 firewall model, namely version 4.3.3-8, which promises to resolve the Path Traversal Attack vulnerability issue and improve overall security.

However, take into account that the present release might still encounter a wide variety of issues regarding IPv6 SSL-VPN tunnels, Filezilla FTP traffic, Internet Traffic Statistics, and several others as highlighted in the Release Notes below.

If you consider installing firmware 4.3.3-8, first of all, make sure to check your device’s current version and see if it isn’t either newer or matching this release. If all is OK, save and unzip the downloadable archive to a convenient place such as your desktop and reboot the firewall before moving forward.

Afterwards, log into its web user interface, go to Administration > Settings > Backup and Firmware Upgrade > Router Upgrade section, click “Browse,” and locate and select the newly-extracted .img file.

Once these steps are checked, Hit “Upload,” and wait patiently as the device does its job. Still, bear in mind that, since this process may take some time, interrupting the upgrade in any way can lead to various malfunctions.

Last but not least, after finishing the installation, your VPN Firewall will automatically reboot. To be sure of the upgrade, it would be a good idea to check the current firmware version once more.

That said, download NETGEAR SRX5308 Firewall Firmware 4.3.3-8, carefully apply it on your unit, and check back with us as often as possible to stay up to speed with the latest releases.
