14 DAY TRIAL // Leica has rolled out new firmware packages targeted at its M (Typ 240), M-P (Typ 240), M (Typ 262), and M Monochrom (Typ 246) camera models, which add support for memory cards with up to 512 GB capacity and several other fixes and improvements.
Before highlighting any changes, you should know that the producer has provided firmware 2.0.3.0 for its M and M-P (Typ 240) devices, version 1.0.0.6 the Leica M (Typ 262) model, as well as the 1.0.1.0 update targeted at Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) cameras.
If upgraded, these imaging units will receive optimizations to prevent camera controls from becoming unresponsive in certain situations, display a message in the viewfinder when slow SD-cards are used and have the ability to transfer files larger than 2GB via USB.
In addition to that, these update will change default file format from JPG to DNG+JPG, extend GPS Position time-out to 2.5 hours when no signal is received, improve internal clock accuracy, and remove the “Check battery age” misleading message.
Last but not least, camera freeze events when shooting fast sequences are fixed, histogram display for high ISO values and flash exposure compensation get improved, and several other changes, as highlighted in the Release Notes below, are implemented.
Regarding installation, first, format a compatible SD card using your camera, save the appropriate firmware file onto its root directory, and insert the card into the powered-off camera. Now, turn the Leica M unit on while holding “INFO” button, and follow all instructions displayed.
