The release fixes CVE-2017-8828 and CVE-2017-5892 issues

ASUS has rolled out a new firmware package targeted at some of its RT router models, namely version 3.0.0.4.380.7743, which manages to resolve the CVE-2017-8828 (XSS vulnerability and improve brute-force protection for SSH and Telnet connections.

In addition to that, the current release also fixes the JSONP Information Disclosure (CVE-2017-5892) and Samba remote code execution (CVE-2017-7494) vulnerabilities and resolves issues regarding USB Modem/ Tethering UI, URL filter, the keyword filter, and network filter time.

As for the currently supported devices, ASUS has provided update files for its RT-AC68 (UF, W, P, U, R), RT-AC56 (S, U, R), RT-AC1900P, RT-AC3100, and RT-AC88U wireless routers.

Regarding installation, just save and unzip the downloadable archive, establish a wired connection between the router and a computer, log into its administration page, and backup all settings changes from the default values.

Afterward, go to the Firmware Upgrade section, hit “Browse,” navigate and select the newly extracted .trx firmware file, click “Upload,” and wait for the router to transfer the update, and then apply this new firmware.

However, bear in mind that removing the Ethernet/power cable from either device, turning off the router or the computer, or interrupting this process in any way can lead to serious malfunctions.
