14 DAY TRIAL // ASUS has announced the availability of new firmware updates targeted at several of its wireless router models, namely builds 378.9135, 378.9177, and 378.9216, which fix the Web server Accept-Language and URL handler buffer overflow, and include various other changes.
Just to be clear about the targeted devices, the producer has provided firmware 378.9177 compatible with its powerful RT-AC87R and RT-AC87U routers, as well as version 9216 suitable for the well-appreciated RT-N18U wireless unit.
Moreover, ASUS has also made available its 378.9135 update developed for the RT-AC51U and RT-AC3200 devices, the RT-AC66 routers (including RT-AC66W, -AC66U, and -AC66R models), as well as for its RT-AC68 lineup that includes ASUS’ RT-AC68P, -AC68R, -AC68W, and -AC68U units.
When it comes to the rest of the changes, these updates resolve the CVE-2015-6949 buffer overflow issue, and improve strength check method for router login and wireless passwords in order to bypass any brute-force attack.
In addition to that, passwords that are easy to guess cannot be set by administrators, Time scheduling and Wireless MAC filter client menu can now show offline devices, Meo and Movistar are part of the ISP profile list, and OpenVPN connection status will be displayed properly.
Last but not least, these compatible routers receive fixes for media server scanning, IE11 compatibility, Adaptive QoS game mode GUI issues, as well as several other changes that are highlighted on the description page of each firmware package (check the links below).
