The new update includes a huge number of fixes

Better known for its innovative storage solutions, Western Digital has just provided its WD TV Media Player owners with a new firmware update, namely version 1.02.17, which adds support for AOL.On and includes numerous fixes that improve overall performance and stability.

Specifically speaking, the present release allows playing any files after using BBC iPlayer, fixes some .MP4 problems where files wouldn’t be played (including those from Olympus Stylus Tough-3000), and resolves the YouTube Leanback issue that caused WD TV to reboot.

In addition to that, issues with ABC iView not streaming content, missing services from HOTKEY service list, BBC iPlayer launching an older version via hotkey, as well as with nZBGet causing WDTV Players to run out of space for 2GB+ videos have been resolved as well.

Moreover, version 1.02.17 also fixes system lock up problems when in idle mode, issues with SiriusXM rebooting WD TV after entering certain credentials, and improves USB HDD compatibility during use of some features.

The bad part about this update is that subscribers of CinemaNow will no longer receive support on Western Digital’s TV Media Player device.

If you intend to upgrade your unit to this version, then save and extract the downloadable archive onto a USB drive, connect it to the WD TV, and go to Home  UI > Alerts > Firmware Upgrade using the remove.

Now, select “OK” at the next dialogs that ask for permission to initialize the installation, and patiently wait for your unit to do its job. The firmware update will be complete when the media player reboots twice.

This being told, download WD TV Media Player Firmware 1.02.17, take into account all aforementioned steps, and apply the latest software version on your unit to stay “updated one minute ago.”
