Western Digital, well known for its storage solutions, has just made available a new firmware package developed for its My Passport Wireless devices, namely version 1.03.13, which updates SD card sync rules and decreases startup boot time.

In addition to that, WD’s release fixes various Shellshock vulnerabilities, resolves a bug that caused WiFi profiles to be removed, and closes additional TCP/UDP ports in order to increase overall security level.

If the present version is applied, the device won’t enter standby mode during SD card transfer without no reason, language will have no problems even after restoring default settings, and downlink won’t be turned off by client mode anymore.

Last but not least, firmware 1.03.13 will increase data transfer speeds by revising SD card transfer algorithms, and won’t allow the progress bar to freeze when removing the memory card while exchanging data.

When it comes to installing this update, save and extract the downloadable archive, connect to the wireless storage unit, and go to Dashboard UI > Firmware Tab > Manual Update.

Now, click “Update From File,” navigate and select the newly extracted “MyPassportWireless_1.03.13.bin” file, agree with the firmware upgrade process by choosing “Ok” at the next dialog, and allow the device to do its job.

Even if it is quite easy, bear in mind that you mustn’t interrupt the installation in any way, as this will lead to an update failure which can cause serious device malfunctions. Also, in unfortunate cases, the My Passport Wireless might even be rendered unable to boot, so be careful.

That being said, download WD My Passport Wireless Storage Firmware 1.03.13, take into account all aforementioned aspects, upgrade your device to this new release, and enjoy the changes it brings about.
