Western Digital has just made available a new firmware update targeted at its My Cloud personal storage unit, namely version 04.01.01-413, which resolves the issue where certain applications would display “Remote Access Disabled” for no reason.

In addition to that, this new release also improves the overall stability of remote access connections, as well as removes a bug that might have caused the NAS to receive no response from the web server whatsoever.

Therefore, if you have been encountering these problems, then save and unzip the downloadable archive, go to Dashboard > Settings > Firmware > Update from File, and navigate and select the newly extracted .deb file.

Now, simply agree with the Update Firmware pop-up window that will appear by clicking “Ok” and allow the network storage to perform the upgrade (takes several minutes to complete).

Bear in mind that during the installation, you mustn’t turn off the My Cloud unit or computer, close the user interface, or interrupt the process in any way. Doing so will cause the device to malfunction or will render it unable to boot.

Moreover, make sure not to rename the “sq-040101-413-20141106.deb” update file, as this will lead to the same unpleasant results.

With this in mind, download WD My Cloud Firmware 04.01.01-413, take into account all aforementioned aspects, and improve your NAS’ overall performance and stability.
