Today, BlackMagic Design has rolled out Camera Firmware Update Utility version 1.9.9, which improves in-camera format reliability for Production 4K, Cinema MFT, Cinema EF, and Pocket Cinema cameras, and includes several changes for URSA models.

Specifically speaking, this 1.9.9 update adds support for compressed RAW 3:1, allows 80 fps recording in 4K for ProRes and RAW 3:1, includes more frame guide options, and gives users the ability to make use of the phantom power feature.

In addition to that, while Blackmagic’s Studio Camera HD and 4K units receive no improvements whatsoever, the URSA Broadcast, HDMI, PL, and EL models also get in-camera formatting support for CFast 2.0 media, as well as compatibility with the variable frame rate feature.

When it comes to compatible operating systems, as always, the producer has made available two downloadable packages: one suitable for the 64-bit variant of Microsoft’s Windows 7 and 8 OSes, and the other supported by Mac OS X Mavericks and Yosemite platforms.

As for installing this update, first of all make sure to run “Uninstall Camera Utility” prior to upgrading to the new version. Also, after loading this new release, a slight flickering might be viewed on Cinema Camera EF or MFT devices.

In other words, download BlackMagic Camera Firmware Update Utility 1.9.9 for the appropriate device model and system platform, apply it, and enjoy the changes that this new release brings about.
