Sony has recently released a new firmware update for its DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 lens-style cameras, also known as “Camera-in-a-Can.” Version 2.00 comes with numerous fixes detailed in a blog from our Photo section.

To install, download the firmware for your device and bear with me through the steps listed below. Also, the setup will work only with Windows XP SP3 (64-bit and Starter editions are not supported), Vista SP2 (not the Starter edition), 7 SP1, 8, and 8.1.

After you've downloaded the executable, make sure you have a fully charged battery and the USB cable that came with the camera.

Close all running programs and open the update file. This will launch the Firmware Updater utility, which will guide you through the installation. Progress is shown on the left side of the window and, after the software checks the firmware on the camera, make sure your device is running a version lower than 2.00.

When the installer asks you to reset the camera, use the “Safely Remove” function in Windows to stop the USB connection. Do not physically remove the USB cable from the computer or camera.

Press the “Shutter” button on the camera and press “Next” in the firmware updater, then run the actual update. When the “Finish” option becomes available, click it and the installation is complete.

Safely remove the camera, disconnect the USB cable, turn the camera off, remove the battery pack, and then turn it back on. If the ISO setting is visible, then the system software has been successfully updated.

Get the latest firmware for Sony's DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 cameras, install the one for your product, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
