Thecus has announced the availability of a new firmware package developed for several of its network-attached storage servers, namely version 2.05.04.7952, which includes support for new features as well as numerous fixes.

Specifically speaking, this new release adds support for iSCSI VAAI, Btrfs-Prog v3.14.2, Btrfs folder quota, and Btrfs snapshot features, improves the schedule function and the WEBDAV security, and updates the kernel from version 3.4 to 3.10.47.

In addition to that, Thecus’ firmware includes a new Cedraview graphic driver version 3.10 for Linux operating systems, modifies the NTP sync feature, and fixes the samba server sign in issue.

Moreover, version 2.05.04.7952 also resolves the IP sharing mode that was invalid in certain situations, ThecusID page that would remain blank in some cases, as well as the UI timeout issue while searching AD user.

If the latest software is applied, Thecus’ targeted servers will also receive fixes that resolve the LSI HBA and expander update problems, the UPS power resume bugs, and the system fan improper behavior for the N7710 and N7710-G units.

As for some recommendations, since a potential data loss risk is involved, it would be best if RAID data was saved prior to initiating the upgrade. Also, bear in mind that, once updated to this release, applying an earlier version will not be possible.

That being said, download Thecus NAS Server Firmware 2.05.04.7952 for your specific device model (if your product isn’t listed, then this release doesn't apply to your NAS), take into account all aforementioned aspects, and install the latest software on your unit.
