Owners of OCZ Octane and Octane S2 solid state drives can download, as of now, the latest firmware for their toys.
The system software for these two SSD series has now reached version 1.14.1 (Octane) and version 4.14.1 (Octane S2) and the biggest improvement is the fix that eliminated the installation issues encountered by Mac users running OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion. It is reported that the installation is now following a smooth, error-free course.
Updating the OCZ Octane/ Octane S2 firmware requires the presence of the Toolbox Firmware Updater utility. This tool is now version 4.1.0.2833 and comes with several enhancements such as improved update speeds and support for Barefoot 2-based drives.
At the same time, the new toolbox sports several GUI enhancements, better Everest2 update process and support for multi-step updates. Like with any SSD firmware update, it's advised you backed up all your important data and make sure you don't power off your machine until the process is complete.
